The Rua do Ténis Project
Reviving history in Albufeira
Rua do Ténis, Albufeira, is a street that carries the weight of centuries. With cobblestones that whisper tales of the past and walls that have seen the ebb and flow of time, it's a place where history is palpable.
When the opportunity arose to transform an ancient building on this storied street into a modern apartment complex, it was both a daunting challenge and a thrilling prospect.
Project Overview
Our task was not merely to renovate but to breathe new life into a structure that had stood the test of time. The result is a harmonious blend of old-world charm and modern elegance—a true testament to the transformative power of architectural innovation.
Past to Present
This landmark on Rua do Ténis is a relic from the 18th century, featuring intricate stonework and wooden beams. Our goal was to retain its historical character while infusing it with contemporary elements. The meticulously restored façade, modern balconies, and spacious interiors reflect this balance.
Exterior Restoration
We preserved the original stone and timber elements, enhancing their natural beauty and durability. Modern glass and steel balconies were added, providing residents with stunning views while complementing the historic stonework.
Interior Transformation
Inside, we aimed for spacious, light-filled apartments with modern amenities. The lobby combines exposed stone walls with contemporary furnishings, creating a welcoming blend of old and new. Each apartment features restored wooden beams, state-of-the-art kitchens, serene bedrooms, and luxurious bathrooms.
Sustainability and Modern Conveniences
Energy-efficient windows, insulation, and heating systems reduce the environmental footprint. Solar panels on the roof provide renewable energy, and smart home systems offer 21st-century conveniences.
Honoring Heritage
This project showcases our commitment to honoring the past while providing for the future—a philosophy central to our architectural practice. We carry forward the lessons learned from this remarkable transformation.
